''Only God can determine when Leah Sharibu will return'' Presidency

The presidency as reacted to the audio released by Boko Haram to prove that Leah Sharibu, the only remaining Dapchi school girl in their capitivty, is still alive. Recall that in February, 119 Dapchi school girls were abducted. In March, 113 were returned by Boko Haram while Leah, a Christian who refused to convert to a Muslim, was held back. Yesterday, a faction of the Boko Haram sect released a video as proof of life. Leah who has been held captive for 7 months now by a breakaway faction from Boko Haram called Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), pleaded with the government of Nigeria to secure her release. She also pleaded with Nigerians to assist her family at their time of suffering. Read here. Suspected Yahoo Boy Beaten To Death After Killing 5 People (Photos)

A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun state, was beaten to death, yesterday, after he killed at least five people in the state, including some Post UTME students with his car. Though eyewitnesses alleged that occupants of the car were drunk or high on drugs due to the amount of drugs retrieved from their car, it was gathered that the deceased identified as Fisayo, said to be a yahoo boy, was driving recklessly with two other friends, when they first hit someone at Akoda, then, while being chased, they hit another person at Eleha, Bepo. The final year Building Technology student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State further rammed into a bike rider with his passengers at Orita Oloki, where they were eventually tracked down and Fisayo was beaten to death, as his friends fled. The car belonging to the student who allegedly wrote his final exam as an undergraduate just last week, was destroyed by the angry mob.

Today, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters approved N143 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in line with the proposal of President Buhari for the funding of the 2019 general elections. The President had in a letter to the National Assembly on July 17 sought the approval of the Assembly for the virement of N143 billion to INEC in readiness for the 2019 polls. Addressing newsmen at the end of its 30-minute closed-door meeting in Senate Committee Room 117 on Monday, the Committee Chairman, Senator Suleiman Nazif (Bauchi North), said the committee which had met four rimes within two weeks after exhaustive deliberations okayed N143 billion as election funds for INEC. According to him, the Committee will be meeting again with INEC management on Tuesday “so as to give the electoral body opportunity to reprioritize its election needs”.
